To connect a third-party domain to Squarespace, you'll need to add specific DNS records in your domain provider's account. Here are the required records and settings:

Required CNAME Records

  1. Verification CNAME:
  • Alias/Hostname: [Your unique verification code from DNS Settings panel]
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  1. WWW CNAME:
  • Alias/Hostname: www
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

Required A Records

Add these four A records (if provider limits to one, use only the first):

  • Alias/Hostname: @
  • Type: A Record
  • Points to:
    • 198.185.159.144
    • 198.185.159.145
    • 198.49.23.144
    • 198.49.23.145

Important Notes:

  • DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate
  • "Record not found" messages are normal immediately after adding records
  • Verify all records are entered exactly as shown
  • Contact your domain provider if you can't locate DNS settings
  • Check that your provider offers full DNS editing access

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • After 72 hours, use the DNS records checker in the Domains panel to identify any incorrect records
  • Ensure your domain provider allows full DNS management
  • If issues persist, consider transferring your domain to Squarespace instead of connecting it
  • For specific provider instructions, consult Squarespace's domain connection guides

Remember to maintain your domain registration with your provider while keeping these DNS records in place for continued connection to Squarespace.
