When connecting a third-party domain to your Squarespace site, you'll need to add specific DNS records in your domain provider account. Here are the essential records and settings required.

CNAMEs (Required: 2)

  1. Verification CNAME
  • Host Name: [Your unique verification code]
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  1. Website CNAME
  • Host Name: www
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

A Records (Required: 4)

Add these A records to connect the root domain (without www):

  • Host Name: @

  • Type: A record

  • Points to: 198.185.159.144

  • Host Name: @

  • Type: A record

  • Points to: 198.185.159.145

  • Host Name: @

  • Type: A record

  • Points to: 198.49.23.144

  • Host Name: @

  • Type: A record

  • Points to: 198.49.23.145

Note: If your provider only allows one A record, use the first IP address (198.185.159.144).

Important Considerations:

  • DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate
  • "Record not found" messages are normal during this period
  • If issues persist after 72 hours, check your DNS records against these settings
  • Each domain provider has a different interface for managing DNS records
  • Contact your domain provider for specific guidance on adding DNS records

If you're unable to add these records, verify that your domain provider allows full DNS editing access, or consider transferring your domain to Squarespace for easier management.
