How to Add and Manage DNS Records for Your Domain

DNS records contain essential information about your domain, helping connect users to your website or email address while enhancing security and authenticating ownership. Here's how to manage DNS records in Squarespace.

When to Update DNS Records:

  • Connect third-party tools (Google Site Verification, Salesforce Marketing Cloud)
  • Forward your domain
  • Set up third-party email services
  • Fix domain connection delays

Requirements:

  • Must have a Squarespace-managed domain OR
  • Third-party domain connected via Nameserver Connect Note: For DNS Connect domains, edit DNS settings through your third-party provider.

Accessing DNS Settings:

  1. Open domain dashboard
  2. Click domain name
  3. Select DNS Settings

Available DNS Record Types:

  • A Records
  • AAAA Records
  • ALIAS Records
  • CNAME Records
  • DKIM and SPF
  • DMARC
  • MX Records
  • SRV Records
  • CAA Records
  • DS and DNSKEY
  • HTTPS Records
  • PTR Records
  • SSHFP Records
  • TLSA Records
  • NS Records
  • TXT Records

Customizing TTL (Time To Live):

  • Default: 4 hours
  • Adjustable via dropdown menu
  • Custom values in seconds (max: 2147483648)

Deleting DNS Records:

  1. Open domain dashboard
  2. Click domain name
  3. Navigate to DNS Settings
  4. Find Custom Records
  5. Hover over record
  6. Click red trash can
  7. Click Save

Important Notes:

  • Changes may take 24-72 hours to propagate
  • DNS settings are managed separately for multiple domains
  • For DNS Connect domains, manage records through your domain provider
