How to Cancel a Domain Transfer in Progress
A domain transfer can be canceled if the transfer status is still "Transfer Pending" and the domain provider hasn't approved it yet. Here's how to manage your domain transfer cancellation:
When You Can Cancel
- During "Transfer Pending" status
- Before domain provider approval
- While domain is still with original provider
Cancellation Steps:
- Navigate to Domains panel
- Select the pending transfer domain
- Click the menu [...]
- Choose "Cancel Transfer"
- Confirm cancellation
Important Notes:
- Contact your domain provider to ensure they stop the transfer
- Domain provider may need to take additional steps
- Cancellation may not be possible if the domain has been released
When Cancellation Isn't Possible:
- After domain provider approves transfer
- When domain is in transit between hosts
- During the 60-day mandatory registration period with new host
Best Practices:
- Check transfer status before attempting cancellation
- Coordinate with current domain provider
- Wait for transfer completion if cancellation isn't possible
- Allow 60 days before initiating new transfers
If the domain still shows "Transferring" status after cancellation, contact your current provider to reject the transfer request. Success depends on whether they've already released the domain.
Remember: Once a transfer is completed, you must wait 60 days before transferring the domain to another provider.
