Start by logging into your GoDaddy account through the Domain Control Center and locate your domain under the Domains section.

  1. Verify Domain Contact Information:
  • Check Administrative tab in Domain Settings
  • Ensure email address is correct and accessible
  • Update if needed and save changes
  1. Unlock the Domain:
  • Find Domain Lock in Other Settings
  • Turn off Domain Lock
  • Confirm unlocking when prompted
  • Wait for pending update to process
  1. Get Authorization Code:
  • Click "Transfer domain away from GoDaddy"
  • Select "Click here to see Authorization Code"
  • Copy the code and save it securely
  1. Start Transfer in Squarespace:
  • Open Domains panel
  • Click "Use a Domain I Own"
  • Enter your domain name
  • Click "Transfer domain"
  • Paste authorization code
  1. Complete Transfer Process:
  • Verify registration details
  • Confirm payment information
  • Review order details
  • Accept terms and purchase transfer

Important Notes:

  • Transfer takes up to 15 days
  • Costs one additional year of domain registration
  • Keep MX records if using custom email
  • Wait for transfer completion before changing DNS settings

After Transfer Completion:

  1. You'll receive confirmation email from Squarespace
  2. Domain shows green label in Domains panel
  3. Manage all settings through Squarespace
  4. Cancel GoDaddy account if desired

Troubleshooting:

  • Check domain lock status if transfer fails
  • Verify authorization code accuracy
  • Contact GoDaddy support if transfer exceeds 15 days
  • Consider linking domain instead if transfer issues persist

For custom email addresses, maintain existing MX records during transfer. Once complete, you can set up Google Workspace through Squarespace integration.

Remember to review DNS settings after transfer and configure SSL settings for your site's security. Keep all domain-related communications accessible during the process.
