How to Troubleshoot Google Workspace Domain Validation Issues
Google Workspace domain validation issues can be frustrating, but they're usually easy to fix. Here's how to resolve common validation errors.
Basic Validation Steps:
- Check your welcome email for the temporary password
- Log into your Google Workspace account
- Accept Google's terms of service
- Validate your domain through the admin console
For Squarespace Websites:
- Remove any password protection from your homepage
- Ensure your homepage is published
- Verify it's not a demo page
- Confirm external email domains are properly linked (allow 72 hours for recent changes)
If Validation Fails:
- Try Manual Revalidation:
- Open Google Workspace dashboard
- Click "Try again" on the validation error
- Refresh your browser
- If the error persists, proceed to TXT record validation
- TXT Record Validation:
- Log into Google Workspace admin console in private/incognito mode
- Get your unique validation record (starts with google-site-verification=)
- Access your domain's DNS settings
- Add the TXT record using appropriate presets
- Wait 10-60 minutes for Google to verify

Error page with red warning
For External Domains:
- Follow your domain provider's specific TXT record documentation
- Add the Google verification TXT record to your DNS settings
- Allow up to one hour for propagation
Common Issues:
- Missing temporary password
- Unanswered terms of service
- Password-protected homepage
- Unpublished website
- Incorrect DNS configuration
- Recent domain changes needing propagation time
Once validation succeeds, the error message will disappear from your dashboard, and you'll have full access to your Google Workspace account.
