
Manage Domain Permissions & Editor Access: A Complete Guide
Domain permissions grant teammates the ability to manage domains, billing, and settings. Follow these steps to manage domain access effectively:
Permission Levels:
- Domain Owner: Full access to all settings and billing
- Domain Manager with Billing: Can manage settings and billing (legacy role only)
- Domain Manager: Can manage settings but not billing
Adding Domain Managers:
- Open domain dashboard
- Select your domain
- Click Permissions
- Click "Invite domain manager"
- Enter editor's name and email
What Domain Managers Can Do:
- Manage domain settings and DNS
- Configure domain records
- Initiate domain transfers
- Remove themselves from domains
What Domain Managers Cannot Do:
- Update payment details
- Enable/disable auto-renewal
- Reactivate expired domains
- Access billing information
Accepting an Invitation:
- Open invitation email
- Click "Accept Invitation"
- Sign in or create Squarespace account
- Use matching email address
Removing Domain Access:
- Open domain dashboard
- Select domain
- Click Permissions
- Click "..." next to editor
- Select "Remove domain manager"
Important Notes:
- No limit on number of domain managers
- Editors need individual Squarespace accounts
- Cannot add new billing access managers
- Domain groups maintain separate permissions
- Only domain owner receives transfer codes
For ownership changes:
- Create trial website
- Link domain
- Contact support
- Transfer ownership
- Update contact details
