A parked domain is a registered domain not connected to any website. When accessing a parked Squarespace domain, visitors see your domain name with a minimalist background image.

Managing a Parked Domain

When you register or transfer a domain to Squarespace, default DNS records automatically redirect it to the parked domain page. If visitors receive connection errors, you can restore default settings by:

  1. Opening your Domains dashboard
  2. Clicking your domain
  3. Selecting DNS
  4. Clicking Add Default Setting, then Add Squarespace Default Settings

Domain Management Options

  • Add contributors or change ownership
  • Update contact information for important notifications
  • Move domain to other Squarespace sites on your account
  • Connect to a new website
  • Add Google Workspace email addresses

Converting a Parked Domain

You can convert your parked domain by:

  1. Creating a website

    • Access Domains dashboard
    • Click your domain
    • Select Website
    • Choose Get Started
  2. Adding custom email

    • Set up through Google Workspace integration
    • Includes access to Google Calendar and Drive

Important Limitations

  • No custom ads allowed on parked domains
  • Cannot connect third-party domains to parked pages
  • Unable to revert to parked status after creating a website
  • No code injection, CSS, or integrations (except Google Workspace)

The parked domain page serves as a temporary placeholder until you're ready to build a full website or use the domain for custom email addresses.

Note: Annual Squarespace website plans include a free custom domain. Contact support for balance adjustment if upgrading within the first year of domain registration.
