Analyzing Form and Button Conversions

Form and button conversion analysis helps you understand how visitors interact with clickable elements on your site, measuring views, submissions, and conversion rates for each element.

Understanding Conversion Rates

Conversion rate is calculated using this formula: (Converted unique views ÷ unique views) x 100

A converted unique view counts as one regardless of how many times a visitor interacts with a form or button during their visit.

Tracked Elements

Forms and buttons that are tracked:

  • Button Block
  • Newsletter Block
  • Form Block
  • Promotional pop-ups
  • Cover page elements

Not tracked:

  • Banner buttons
  • Navigation buttons
  • Pinterest Save buttons
  • Share buttons
  • Social icons
  • Donation forms
  • Payment forms
  • Image Block buttons

Viewing Analytics

To access conversion data:

  1. Open the Analytics panel
  2. Click Engagement
  3. Select Conversions by Form and Button
  4. Choose your preferred date range (data available from September 2017)

The analysis provides:

  • Line graph showing trends over time
  • Detailed table with views, submissions, and conversion rates
  • Individual performance metrics for each form and button
  • Option to filter by Button Clicks or Form Submissions

Improving Conversion Rates

To optimize your conversion rates:

  • Keep forms concise
  • Minimize personal information requests
  • Test different button text variations
  • Experiment with element placement
  • Use lightbox mode or promotional pop-ups strategically
  • Ensure clear calls to action
  • Maintain brand consistency in styling

Mobile Analytics

Access form and button conversions in the Squarespace app:

  • Form Submissions: Analytics > Form Submissions
  • Button Conversions: Analytics > Button Clicks

Each section shows:

  • Total submissions/clicks
  • Unique views
  • Conversion rates
  • Performance data by timeframe
  • Detailed conversion tables

Note: Commerce-related conversions, including donations and payment forms, are tracked separately in the Sales Analytics panel.
