Change Squarespace Website Billing Plan & Cycle: A Complete Guide
You can change your Squarespace website plan and billing cycle at any time. Here's everything you need to know about managing your subscription.
Before Making Changes
- Only site owners and contributors with Admin or Billing permissions can modify plans
- Review your desired plan's features before switching
- Clear any outstanding payments if your site is past due
- You may need to remove premium features before downgrading
- Plan changes can take effect immediately or at the end of your billing period
How to Change Your Plan or Billing Cycle
- Go to Account Dashboard and select your site
- Open Billing panel > Subscriptions
- Click Website or Squarespace
- Select Upgrade
- Choose your new plan and billing cycle (monthly or annual)
- Review and confirm your purchase
When Changes Take Effect
Upgrades:
- Immediate access to new features upon upgrade
- If switching from annual to monthly while upgrading, features activate at cycle end
- Cancel pending changes to get immediate access
Downgrades:
- Keep current features until billing period ends
- No prorated refunds available
- Must remove premium features before downgrading to Personal plan:
- Delete carrier calculated shipping
- Adjust page limits
- Disable automatic tax rates
- Remove extra shipping zones
- Reduce contributors to two maximum
Billing Cycle Changes
- Features remain unchanged when only modifying billing cycle
- Renewal date adjusts based on new cycle
- Domains stay on annual billing regardless of website plan cycle
- Review auto-renewal settings after any changes
Domain Considerations
- Domain charges process 15 days before renewal
- Email notifications sent to Owner and Admin contacts
- Free domains convert to paid ($20/year) when switching to monthly billing
- Can opt to let domain expire by unchecking renewal option
To modify your billing date without changing cycles, disable auto-renew and reactivate on your preferred date. Note that your site will go offline between expiration and reactivation.
PayPal users may need to reset their connection when downgrading from Commerce plans to continue processing payments.
