How Squarespace Domain Renewals Work: Billing Cycles Explained
Domains on Squarespace automatically renew to maintain your site's functionality. You'll receive renewal notifications 30 days before the renewal date, and billing occurs 15 days before expiration.
Auto-Renewal Process:
- Default setting: Auto-renewal enabled
- Payment processing: 15 days before expiration
- Email notifications: 30 days before renewal
- Billing is separate from other Squarespace subscriptions
To Disable Auto-Renewal:
- Open domains dashboard
- Click your domain
- Switch off Auto-renew toggle
- Must be done at least one day before renewal date
Domain Timeline Example (.com):
- Purchase date: Initial registration
- 15 days before expiration: Renewal charge
- Expiration date: Domain expires if payment fails
- 30-day grace period: Time to reactivate expired domain
Payment Failure Process:
- Domain enters "past due" status
- Remains active for 15 days
- Three payment attempts at 5-day intervals
- Domain expires after third failed attempt
- 30-day grace period begins
