Nameserver registration, also known as glue records, allows you to host your domain on your own servers by registering your nameserver's IP address with your TLD registry. This is essential when you want to use custom nameservers instead of your domain provider's default ones.

Prerequisites:

  • Your own server setup
  • Server administration knowledge
  • Server hostname and IP address information

Adding Glue Records:

  1. Gather your server's hostname and IP address
  2. Navigate to your domains dashboard
  3. Select your domain > DNS > Nameserver Registration
  4. Click "Add Host Record"
  5. Enter your server's hostname
  6. Add the IP address
  7. Save changes

Note: Changes may take 24-72 hours to propagate fully.

Removing Glue Records:

Important: Ensure nameservers point to a different destination before deletion to avoid service interruption.

  1. Access domains dashboard
  2. Select domain > DNS > Domain Nameserver
  3. Click Nameserver Registration
  4. Click the trash icon next to the host record
  5. Save changes

Warning: Removing glue records can cause 72-hour website downtime if not properly configured.

Best Practices:

  • Keep server information readily available
  • Plan changes during low-traffic periods
  • Always have backup nameserver configurations
  • Verify changes after propagation period

Remember to update your custom nameservers after adding glue records to complete the setup process. This ensures proper domain resolution and maintains website accessibility.
