To properly link an external domain to your Squarespace site, you'll need to add specific DNS records to your domain provider's settings. Here are the required records and settings:

Required CNAMEs

  1. Verification CNAME:
  • Host Name: [Your unique verification code from DNS settings panel]
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  1. Website CNAME:
  • Host Name: www
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

Required A Records

Add these four A Records to link your root domain (without www):

  • Host Name: @
  • Type: A Record
  • Points to:
    • 198.185.159.144
    • 198.185.159.145
    • 198.49.23.144
    • 198.49.23.145

Note: If your provider only allows one A Record, use 198.185.159.144.

Important Notes:

  • DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate
  • "Record not found" messages are normal immediately after adding records
  • Each domain provider has a different interface for adding DNS records
  • Contact your domain provider if you can't locate DNS settings

Troubleshooting Tips:

  1. Ensure you have full DNS editing access with your provider
  2. Double-check all records are entered exactly as shown
  3. Wait 72 hours before assuming there's an issue
  4. Use your provider's specific DNS management guides
  5. Consider transferring the domain to Squarespace instead of linking it

Always verify records are saved correctly in your domain provider's settings panel before exiting.
