DNS records are essential when connecting a third-party domain to your Squarespace site. Here's what you need to know about the required records and how to implement them.

Required CNAME Records

  1. Verification CNAME Record:
  • Alias/Hostname: Your unique verification code
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com
  1. WWW CNAME Record:
  • Alias/Hostname: www
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

Required A Records

You need four A records to connect the root domain. If your provider only allows one A record, use the first IP address:

  • Alias/Hostname: @ (for all records)
  • Type: A Records
  • Points to:
    • 198.185.159.144
    • 198.185.159.145
    • 198.49.23.144
    • 198.49.23.145

Common Troubleshooting Tips

  1. Can't find DNS settings:
  • Verify you have full DNS access with your provider
  • Consult provider-specific connection guides
  • Contact your domain provider's support
  1. DNS Settings Panel Errors:
  • "Record Not Found" messages are normal initially
  • Allow up to 72 hours for DNS propagation
  • After 72 hours, check the DNS record checker for specific issues

Pro Tip: Consider transferring your domain to Squarespace instead of connecting it, if possible. This often provides easier management and better integration.

Remember to verify all records are entered exactly as shown, as even small differences can prevent proper connection.
