Log into your domain provider's account and access the DNS settings (may be called Zone File Settings, Manage Domains, or DNS Manager).

Add two CNAME records as follows:

First CNAME Record:

  • Host/Alias: [verification code].subdomain (add a dot at the end)
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: verify.squarespace.com

Second CNAME Record:

  • Host/Alias: your subdomain (e.g., blog)
  • Type: CNAME
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

Return to Squarespace and refresh DNS records:

  1. Go to the Domains panel
  2. Click "Refresh Records"
  3. Wait 24-72 hours for changes to take effect

If your subdomain is set as primary domain:

  1. Open Domains panel
  2. Click the subdomain
  3. Turn off "Use WWW prefix" option

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • If CNAME records aren't supported, use TXT records instead
  • Remove any conflicting A records pointing to other sites
  • Ignore "Not Found" messages for A records
  • Only CNAMEs are required for subdomain connection

The connection is complete when your subdomain successfully redirects to your Squarespace site. If issues persist, contact your domain provider for assistance with subdomain setup.

Important Requirements:

  • Must have a registered domain
  • Domain provider must offer full DNS services
  • Main domain connection not required before subdomain setup
  • Changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate
