DNS records required for Squarespace domains:

1 CNAME record:

  • Host/Alias: www
  • Points to: ext-cust.squarespace.com

4 A Records:

  • Host/Alias: @ (or blank)
  • Points to:
    • 198.185.159.144
    • 198.185.159.145
    • 198.49.23.144
    • 198.49.23.145

When connecting a third-party domain to Squarespace, you'll need to:

  1. Access your domain provider's DNS settings
  2. Add the required DNS records above
  3. Wait up to 24-48 hours for changes to take effect

Common troubleshooting steps:

  1. Verify domain eligibility before transfer:
  • TLD must be supported by Squarespace
  • Domain can't be premium registration
  • Must be 60+ days since registration/transfer
  • Domain must be active and unlocked
  • Less than 9 years into registration
  1. For failed transfers, check:
  • Domain lock status
  • Admin contact information accuracy
  • DNS record configuration

For email campaigns, add these verification records:

  1. CNAME Record:
  • Host: squarespace_domainkey
  • Points to: [unique verification code]
  1. TXT Records:
  • Host: @
  • Points to: [verification code]
  • Host: _DMARC
  • Points to: [DMARC policy]

If your provider doesn't support CNAME records, use a TXT record:

  • Type: TXT
  • Host: @ (or blank)
  • Points to: [your verification code]

Note: DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate. Contact your domain provider for specific technical assistance with their DNS management system.
