
How to Forward a Squarespace Domain to Another Website
Domain forwarding in Squarespace allows visitors to be redirected from one site to another. Here's how to set it up and manage it effectively.
Before Starting:
- Only active domains registered with Squarespace can be forwarded
- Forwarding takes up to 72 hours to fully update
- Built-in Squarespace domains cannot be forwarded
Types of Domain Forwarding:
- Root Domain Forwarding
- Subdomain Forwarding
- Specific Page Forwarding
How to Forward a Domain:
- Open domains dashboard
- Click the domain to edit
- Click Website
- Scroll to Domain Forwarding Rules
- Click Add rule
- Enter forwarding details:
- Forward from: @ (root) or subdomain name
- Forward to: destination URL
- Choose redirect type (301 or 302)
- Configure SSL settings
- Set path forwarding preferences

Path Forwarding Options:
- Maintain paths: Keep original URL structure
- Remove paths: Direct all traffic to new address
Troubleshooting Common Issues:
- Clear browser cache if forwarding isn't immediate
- Check for URL typos
- Verify DNS records are correct
- Remove conflicting third-party records
To Remove Forwarding:
- Open domains dashboard
- Click domain
- Click Website
- Find Domain Forwarding section
- Click trash icon next to Forward domain field
Important Notes:
- Custom nameservers require additional DNS configuration
- Cannot edit DNS records while forwarding is active
- WWW version automatically forwards with root domain
- SSL should remain enabled for security
