Using a Squarespace domain to point to other sites requires configuring DNS settings correctly. Here's how to do it effectively:

Pointing a Domain to a Non-Squarespace Site

  1. Add a CNAME Record:
  • Log into Squarespace and open domain dashboard
  • Navigate to DNS settings
  • Delete Squarespace Defaults
  • Add Custom Record (Type: CNAME)
  • Set Host as "www"
  • Enter provider's URL in Data field
  • Save changes

Special Cases:

For Big Cartel, ClickFunnels, SiteGround, SmugMug, Systeme.io, or Zoho:

  1. Add CNAME record with provider's URL
  2. Create domain forwarding rule:
  • Set Forward from: @
  • Forward to: www.yourdomain.com
  • Configure SSL and path forwarding settings

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Resolve DNS conflicts by removing duplicate subdomain entries
  • Ensure character limits are met in registration fields
  • For persistent issues, reset nameservers and reconfigure DNSSEC

Note: Domain pointing can take up to 72 hours to fully propagate. Always test connections in an incognito window.
