Redirecting Domains and Subdomains in Squarespace

Connect your domain or subdomain to third-party providers by adjusting DNS settings in Squarespace Domains. This allows visitors to reach your external site while maintaining the original URL in the browser's address bar.

Prerequisites:

  • Domain must use Squarespace name servers
  • Not available for parked domains
  • Only for domains managed through Squarespace Domains

Redirecting to Non-Squarespace Sites:

  1. Add CNAME Record:
  • Open domain control panel
  • Go to DNS settings
  • Delete Squarespace Defaults
  • Add Custom Record
  • Select CNAME type
  • Host: www
  • Data: Enter provider's URL
  • Save changes
  1. Add A Record:
  • Add new Custom Record
  • Select A type
  • Host: @
  • Data: Enter provider's IP address
  • Save changes

Redirecting Subdomains:

  1. Create Custom Record:
  • Open main domain's DNS settings
  • Add Custom Record
  • Choose CNAME (for URLs) or A (for IP addresses)
  • Host: Enter subdomain prefix (e.g., "blog")
  • Data: Provider's URL or IP
  • Save and wait 24-72 hours

Special Provider Instructions:

For Big Cartel, ClickFunnels, SiteGround, SmugMug, Systeme.io, or Zoho:

  1. Add CNAME record as above
  2. Create domain redirect rule:
    • Go to Website > Domain Redirect Rules
    • From: @
    • Redirect to: www.yourdomain.com
    • Choose redirect type (301/302)
    • Keep SSL enabled
    • Set path preferences

Troubleshooting:

  • DNS Conflict: Remove duplicate third-party connections
  • Character Limit: Ensure registry fields have 4+ characters
  • Connection Issues: Check DNSSEC and name server settings
  • Allow 24-72 hours for changes to take effect

Test all connections in a private/incognito browser window after implementation.
