Registering a Squarespace domain is straightforward and can be done for free with annual plans or purchased separately. Here's how to do it:

Before You Start:

  • Most Squarespace plans allow multiple domain registrations
  • Annual payment plans include one free domain for the first year
  • Domain prices vary by top-level domain (TLD)
  • Sales tax may apply depending on your location

How to Register a Domain:

  1. Find a Domain
  • Open the domain dashboard
  • Click "Get a Domain"
  • Enter your desired domain name
  • Review available options marked as:
    • Free (if eligible)
    • $20 to $350 (for paid domains)
    • Unavailable
  1. Add to Cart
  • Click the shopping cart icon next to your chosen domain
  • Confirm selection in the Domains dropdown menu
  • Click Checkout
  1. Choose Registration Period
  • Select your desired registration length from the dropdown menu
  • Options vary by TLD
  1. Enter Contact Information
  • Provide owner details (kept private through WHOIS protection)
  • Verify information accuracy
  • Click Save and Continue
  1. Complete Purchase
  • Review selected domain(s)
  • Read terms of service
  • Click Confirm and Purchase
  1. Verify Email
  • Check for verification email within 24 hours
  • Click verification link within 15 days to avoid suspension
  • Domain typically resolves within 1-72 hours

Important Notes:

  • Free domains renew at $20 USD after the first year
  • Domains can be renamed within 5 days of registration
  • Both www and non-www versions automatically work
  • Includes domain hosting but not web hosting
  • Can be transferred to another provider after 60 days

Troubleshooting:

  • For failed registrations, check billing information and naming requirements
  • Authentication link issues can be resolved by trying different browsers
  • Contact support if payment confirmation fails

Available ccTLDs include domains for Australia (.au), Canada (.ca), United Kingdom (.co.uk), and many other countries. Check specific requirements for country-code domains before registration.

For domains not available through Squarespace, you can register with a third-party provider and connect it to your site.
