Disconnecting a third-party domain from your Squarespace site involves two main steps:

Before Disconnecting

  • Set a new primary domain first if disconnecting your primary domain
  • Note: Disconnecting won't affect linked Google Workspace accounts
  • For GoDaddy domains connected automatically, manual disconnection is required afterward

Step 1: Disconnect Domain

  1. Log into your Squarespace site
  2. Open the Domains panel
  3. Select the third-party domain
  4. Scroll down and click "Disconnect domain"
  5. Confirm by clicking "Disconnect" in the popup

Step 2: Remove DNS Records

  1. Log into your domain provider account
  2. Remove all Squarespace DNS records

Important Notes:

  • Domain visitors will see an error message until DNS records are updated
  • Each provider has different steps for DNS record management
  • Contact your domain provider for specific DNS editing instructions
  • Expired site deletion automatically disconnects all linked third-party domains

For GoDaddy Users: After following the above steps, additional manual disconnection is required. Contact GoDaddy support for assistance.

This process applies to domains purchased from third-party providers. For Squarespace domains, refer to the domain transfer process instead.

Remember: Keep your domain's DNS records updated to prevent site access issues after disconnection.
