How to Remove Third-Party Domain Connections from Squarespace Sites
Disconnecting a third-party domain from your Squarespace site involves two main steps:
Before Disconnecting
- Set a new primary domain first if disconnecting your primary domain
- Note: Disconnecting won't affect linked Google Workspace accounts
- For GoDaddy domains connected automatically, manual disconnection is required afterward
Step 1: Disconnect Domain
- Log into your Squarespace site
- Open the Domains panel
- Select the third-party domain
- Scroll down and click "Disconnect domain"
- Confirm by clicking "Disconnect" in the popup
Step 2: Remove DNS Records
- Log into your domain provider account
- Remove all Squarespace DNS records
Important Notes:
- Domain visitors will see an error message until DNS records are updated
- Each provider has different steps for DNS record management
- Contact your domain provider for specific DNS editing instructions
- Expired site deletion automatically disconnects all linked third-party domains
For GoDaddy Users: After following the above steps, additional manual disconnection is required. Contact GoDaddy support for assistance.
This process applies to domains purchased from third-party providers. For Squarespace domains, refer to the domain transfer process instead.
Remember: Keep your domain's DNS records updated to prevent site access issues after disconnection.
