Squarespace occasionally retires fonts due to third-party service provider changes. Once retired, these fonts can't be used in new locations or sites. Here's what you need to know about handling retired fonts.

Replacing Retired Fonts in Version 7.1

  1. Open site styles
  2. Click > next to Fonts
  3. Check font settings in:
    • Headings
    • Paragraphs
    • Buttons
    • Miscellaneous
    • Assign Styles (if customized)
  4. Select new fonts for any retired options

Replacing Retired Fonts in Version 7.0

  1. Open site styles
  2. Locate style tweaks using retired fonts
  3. Select new fonts for retired options

Note: Some tweaks may only appear on specific pages.

Additional Areas to Check for Retired Fonts

  • Custom CSS panel
  • Lock screen (Style > Font)
  • Promotional pop-up (Style > Font tweaks)
  • Cover pages (Version 7.0: Pages > Cover page > Style)

Troubleshooting Duplication Errors

If you receive a "Duplication unavailable" error message:

  1. Compare your current fonts against the retired fonts list
  2. Replace all retired fonts before attempting duplication
  3. Consider choosing a new font pack if needed (note: this will reset all font customization)

Alternative Font Solution

For extensive font customization:

  • Select a new font pack
  • Be aware this removes all previous font settings
  • Cannot restore previous customization

Important Notes:

  • No automatic way to identify retired fonts
  • Check all site elements thoroughly
  • Template and page location may affect available tweaks
  • Document any customized font settings before making changes

This guide ensures your site maintains its design integrity while adapting to font availability changes.
