How to Reset Google Workspace Passwords: A Step-by-Step Guide
A Google Workspace password reset can be accomplished through two main methods: via Squarespace or the Google Workspace Admin Console. Here's how to do it effectively.
Prerequisites
- Squarespace: Must be a site owner or administrator
- Google Workspace: Must have "Super Admin" or Admin privileges
Method 1: Reset via Squarespace (Recommended)
- Navigate to the Google Workspace menu
- Locate the user under "Users"
- Click the "..." menu next to their name
- Select "Reset password"
- Enter an alternative email address (preferably personal)
- Click the reset link in the email received
- Follow prompts to create new password
Important: Don't send the reset link to the email address being reset, as you won't be able to access it.
Method 2: Reset via Google Workspace Admin Console
This method requires more steps but can be used as an alternative to the Squarespace method.
Note: You can ignore any prompts about adding CNAME records to DNS settings.
Common Issues and Solutions:
- Missing Temporary Password
- Solution: Resend the welcome email through your admin panel
- "Send Invitation" Shows Instead of "Reset Password"
- This appears for users who haven't completed initial sign-in
- Follow the Google Workspace sign-up process instead
- Failed Reset Attempts
- Verify your admin privileges
- Ensure you're using a valid alternative email
- Check that the account is active and properly configured
For persistent issues, consult Google Workspace's troubleshooting documentation or contact support directly.
