How to Set Up Custom Email Addresses with Squarespace Domains
Using Custom Domain Email with Squarespace
You can use a custom email address with your domain (like [email protected]) in two ways: keep your current email provider or switch to Google Workspace.
Keeping Your Current Email Provider
- Continue using your existing email service without disrupting your website
- Only requires CNAME and A record changes when connecting domain to Squarespace
- No need to modify nameservers or MX records
- For Squarespace domains, add necessary DNS records provided by your email provider
Switching to Google Workspace
- Manage emails through Gmail while keeping your custom domain address
- Access Google Calendar, Drive, and other Google services
- Handle billing through Squarespace
- Works with both third-party and Squarespace domains
Before Switching to Google Workspace:
- Ensure you have a domain connected to Squarespace
- Complete any pending domain transfers
- Keep current email service active during transition
- Maintain administrator access to both accounts
Migration Process:
- Create Google Workspace Account
- Set up using your existing custom domain
- Add all necessary email addresses and aliases
- Allow up to 72 hours for MX record changes to propagate
- Import Your Data
- Transfer emails, contacts, and other content
- Use Google's data migration service
- Verify all data is accessible in new account
- Cancel Previous Service Only after:
- Completing all setup steps
- Confirming email reception in Google Workspace
- Backing up all necessary content
- Waiting 72 hours for full propagation
Important: When canceling previous service, maintain domain-related settings and only remove email-specific configurations.
