
Troubleshooting Guide: How to Successfully Set Your Homepage in Squarespace
Setting a homepage is essential for your website visitors. Here's how to properly check, set, and manage your homepage.
Checking Current Homepage
Open the Pages panel and locate the house-shaped icon next to your current homepage title.

Setting a New Homepage
- Hover over the desired page title in the Pages panel
- Click the settings icon (•••)
- Scroll to "Set as Homepage" and click
- Click Confirm
- Save changes
The house icon will move to your new homepage, while the previous homepage remains in place without the icon.
After Setting Homepage
- Consider deleting or renaming the previous homepage
- Move new homepage to top of navigation menu for easy access
- Optionally hide homepage from navigation by moving it to Hidden Navigation section
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you see "Page Not Found / Error 404", check:
- URL accuracy
- Page status (enabled/disabled)
- Template preview status (version 7.0)
Important Notes:
- Homepage cannot be a page within an index (version 7.0)
- Disabled homepages appear in light gray
- Custom 404 pages will show your personalized error message
To fix a disabled homepage:
- Set another page as temporary homepage
- Enable the original homepage
- Reset original page as homepage
For template-related issues:
- Activate preview template or restore deleted homepage
- Ensure proper template installation with homepage setting
