
Updates: Meta's New Shop Policy Requires US Merchants to Use Facebook and Instagram Checkout
Connect your store to Facebook and Instagram shops to sell and advertise products directly through social media posts, stories, and shop sections.
Meta Shop Policy Update (April 2024): US merchants must now enable Checkout on Facebook and Instagram. Products can no longer link back to Squarespace for purchase completion.
Current Integration Features:
- One-way product sync from Squarespace to Meta Business Manager
- Hourly automatic updates of product information
- Sales on Meta platforms don't sync with Squarespace inventory or analytics
- Manage Meta sales through Commerce Manager
Requirements Before Syncing:
- Physical products only (no digital/service items)
- Products must include image (min 500×500px), name, and description
- Site title required
- Products must comply with Meta's business policies
- Site-wide password must be disabled
- Business Instagram account (if selling on Instagram)
Required Accounts:
- Meta Business Manager
- Facebook business page
- Meta pixel
- Ad account
Syncing Process:
- Open Products panel on Facebook and Instagram
- Click Connect with Facebook
- Log in with personal account
- Choose desired features:
- Facebook Ads
- Facebook Shops
- Instagram Shopping
- Complete account connection prompts
What Syncs:
- Product ID
- Title
- Description
- Main image
- Lowest price
- Availability status
Managing Your Shop:
- Shops appear after Meta review (24-48 hours)
- Set payment method to "Pay on Facebook and Instagram"
- Create and manage ads through Meta Ads Manager
- Tag products in Instagram posts and stories
Disconnecting:
- Removes products from Meta Business Manager
- Breaks tagged product links in posts/ads
- Open Products and Services panel
- Click Facebook and Instagram
- Click Disconnect twice
