A custom domain email allows you to use professional email addresses (like [email protected]) with your Squarespace website. You have two main options: keep your current email provider or migrate to Google Workspace.

Keeping Your Current Email Provider:

  • Continue using your existing email service without disruption
  • Only CNAME and A records need modification
  • No changes required to nameserver (NS) or MX records
  • For Squarespace domains, add necessary DNS records from your email provider

Migrating to Google Workspace:

  • Maintain your existing email address
  • Manage billing through Squarespace
  • Access Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive
  • Works with both external and Squarespace domains

Before Migration:

  • Ensure your domain is properly connected to Squarespace
  • Complete any pending domain transfers
  • Keep current email service active during transition
  • Maintain admin access to both accounts

Migration Process:

  1. Create Google Workspace Account
  • Set up using your existing custom domain
  • Add all necessary email addresses and aliases
  • Allow up to 72 hours for MX record propagation
  1. Import Content
  • Export emails, contacts, and other data from current provider
  • Use Google's data migration service
  • Verify all essential data is transferred
  1. Cancel Previous Service
  • Wait 72 hours after setup
  • Confirm emails are reaching Google Workspace
  • Backup important content
  • Remove old MX records (Squarespace domains only)
  • Maintain domain service if using third-party provider

Keep your current provider if you're satisfied with the service, or switch to Google Workspace for integrated management through Squarespace. Both options maintain professional email functionality without disrupting your website operations.
