
Google Domains Migration to Squarespace: Key Updates and Changes for Domain Owners
The migration of your Google Domains account to Squarespace was completed following the September 7, 2023 acquisition. Here's what you need to know about managing your domain going forward:
Accessing Your Domain
If you have an existing Squarespace account:
- Sign in at squarespace.com/login using your regular credentials
- Your domains will appear in your domain panel
For new Squarespace users:
- Go to squarespace.com/login
- Click "Continue with Google"
- Select your Google Domains account email
- If you get an authorization error, request a verification email and create a password
Domain Management Features
Through the Squarespace domain panel, you can manage:
- Billing and renewals
- Contact information
- DNS records
- Name servers and DNSSEC
- Whois privacy
Important Billing Information
- Domain subscriptions auto-renew annually
- Existing multi-year registrations will maintain original renewal dates
- Renewal notifications are sent 15 days in advance
- Starting September 7, 2024, domains renew at standard Squarespace rates
- Previous tax exemptions must be reapplied for with Squarespace
Key Changes & Continuity
- You don't need to purchase additional Squarespace services
- Your domain registration time remains intact
- Domain transfers aren't locked for 60 days
- Google services (Analytics, Search Console, Ads) continue working
- URL and email redirects will continue if using Google's default nameservers
Technical Considerations
- You may need to add new verification records for non-Squarespace websites
- Dynamic DNS is not supported
- ACME TLS/SSL certificates are not supported
- Squarespace 5 sites cannot use migrated domains
