DNS records hold crucial domain information that directs users to your website and email addresses. They can enhance security and verify domain ownership. Here's how to manage DNS records on Squarespace domains.

Requirements for DNS Record Management:

  • Must have a Squarespace-managed domain
  • OR have an external domain linked via name servers Note: For domains linked via DNS, edit records through your external provider.

Common Reasons to Edit DNS Records:

  • Domain forwarding
  • External email service setup
  • Fixing domain linking issues

Accessing DNS Settings:

  1. Go to domains control panel
  2. Select domain name
  3. Click DNS Settings

Available DNS Record Types:

  • A and AAAA Records
  • ALIAS Records
  • CNAME Records
  • DKIM and SPF
  • DMARC
  • MX Records
  • SRV Records
  • CAA Records
  • DS and DNSKEY
  • HTTPS Records
  • PTR Records
  • SSHFP
  • TLSA
  • NS Records
  • TXT Records

Custom TTL Settings:

  • Default: 4 hours
  • Can be customized up to 2147483648 seconds
  • Available through dropdown menu with preset values

Deleting DNS Records:

  1. Access domains central panel
  2. Select domain name
  3. Navigate to DNS Settings
  4. Scroll to Custom Records
  5. Hover over record and click trash icon
  6. Click Save Note: Changes may take 24-72 hours to propagate

Key Considerations:

  • Each domain's DNS records must be managed separately
  • Changes can take up to 72 hours to take effect
  • Always verify DNS changes with your service provider
  • Keep records of your DNS configurations

Remember that incorrect DNS settings can affect your domain's functionality, so make changes carefully and consult documentation when needed.
