Adding DNS Records to Your Domain

DNS records (resource records) contain vital information about your domain, helping connect users to your website and email while enhancing security and authenticating ownership.

You can manage DNS records in Squarespace if you have:

  • A Squarespace-managed domain
  • A third-party domain connected via Nameserver Connect

Note: For domains using DNS Connect, edit DNS settings through your external domain provider.

Opening DNS Settings:

  1. Access your domain panel
  2. Select your domain name
  3. Click DNS Settings

Common Types of DNS Records:

  • A Records: Map domain to IPv4 address
  • AAAA Records: Map domain to IPv6 address
  • CNAME Records: Create domain aliases
  • MX Records: Direct email routing
  • TXT Records: Store text information
  • SPF/DKIM Records: Email authentication
  • DMARC Records: Email security policy

Customizing TTL (Time To Live):

  • Default TTL: 4 hours
  • Custom values available in seconds
  • Maximum value: 2147483648 seconds
  • Affects record cache duration

Deleting DNS Records:

  1. Open domain panel
  2. Select domain name
  3. Navigate to DNS Settings
  4. Find Custom Records
  5. Hover over record
  6. Click trash can icon
  7. Save changes

Important Notes:

  • DNS changes may take 24-72 hours to propagate
  • Only modify DNS records when necessary
  • Common reasons include:
    • Domain redirection
    • Third-party email setup
    • Domain connection fixes
    • Third-party service integration

For troubleshooting assistance, consult your domain provider's documentation or support resources.
