How to Cancel a Domain Transfer: Complete Guide
Canceling a domain transfer is possible while the transfer is still pending and hasn't been approved by your current domain provider. Here's how to do it:
When You Can Cancel
You can cancel a domain transfer when:
- The transfer status shows "Transfer Pending" in your Domains panel
- Your current domain provider hasn't approved the transfer yet
- The domain hasn't been released by the current provider
How to Cancel a Transfer
- Access the Domains panel
- Select the domain with pending transfer
- Click the "..." menu
- Choose "Cancel Transfer"
- Confirm the cancellation
Important Notes:
- If the transfer shows as "in progress," contact your current provider to reject it
- Once a provider releases the domain, the transfer cannot be canceled
- After a successful transfer, domains must typically stay with the new host for 60 days
If Transfer Can't Be Canceled
If your domain provider has already released the domain:
- You must wait for the transfer to complete
- After completion, you can prepare to transfer it elsewhere
- Remember the 60-day waiting period before transferring again
Best Practice: Contact your current domain provider to ensure they can stop the transfer on their end and continue hosting your domain.
