How to Change Your Squarespace Domain Name: A Step-by-Step Guide
To change your Squarespace domain name, you have two options depending on timing:
Within First 5 Days:
- Open your domains panel
- Click the domain you want to cancel
- Select "Delete domain"
- Register a new domain through your domains panel
- You'll receive a refund for the canceled domain
After 5 Days:
- Domain name becomes permanent
- Set a different domain as your primary domain instead
- The original domain cannot be changed or refunded
Important Notes:
- The 5-day grace period is measured to the minute
- Country code domains (like .co.uk or .de) don't have a grace period
- Primary domains can't be deleted until you set a new primary domain
- Domains purchased through resellers must be canceled through the reseller's account
For ccTLD Domains:
- No refund or grace period available
- Can only disable auto-renewal
- Must follow specific rules for that domain type
Keep in Mind:
- Canceling a domain stops it from pointing to your site
- Have a new domain ready before canceling the old one
- Update your SEO settings after changing domains
- Ensure your site remains accessible throughout the process
This process helps maintain your online presence while transitioning to a new domain name.
