How to Rename Your Squarespace Domain: 5-Day Grace Period Guide
Within five days of registration, you can change your Squarespace domain name by canceling and registering a new one. After this period, your domain becomes permanent.
Note: The five-day grace period is exact to the minute. For example, if registered at 8:00am on January 1, you have until January 6 at 7:59am to make changes.
Important Considerations:
- Primary domains can't be removed without first setting a different primary domain
- Most country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) like .co.uk or .de don't have a grace period or refund option
- For domains past the grace period, consider switching to a different primary domain instead
How to Rename Your Domain:
- Cancel the Current Domain
- Go to your domains dashboard
- Click on the domain you want to change
- Select "Delete Domain"
- You'll receive a refund and the domain will stop pointing to your site
- Register a New Domain
- Return to your domains dashboard
- Complete the registration process for your new domain name
Exceptions:
- ccTLD domains (.com.au, .de, etc.) don't have cancellation grace periods
- Domains registered through resellers (like Google Workspace) must be canceled through the reseller's account
Remember: Always set up a different primary domain before removing your current one to maintain your site's accessibility.
