How to Rename Your Squarespace Domain: 5-Day Grace Period Guide
You can rename your Squarespace domain within five days of registration or cancel it and register a new one. After this grace period, the domain name becomes permanent.
Timing Guidelines
- 5-day grace period measured to the minute
- Example: Domain registered January 1 at 8:00 AM can be canceled until January 6 at 7:59 AM
- Most country-specific domains (ccTLDs) like .co.uk or .de have no grace period or refund
Important Notes
- A primary domain can't be removed unless another domain is set as primary first
- If past the grace period, switch to a different primary domain instead
- Check specific rules for your domain type, especially for ccTLDs
How to Cancel Your Domain
- Open domain dashboard
- Click the domain you want to change
- Select "Delete Domain"
After cancellation:
- You'll receive a refund
- Domain stops pointing to your website
- You can register a new domain through your dashboard
Exceptions
- ccTLDs may not offer cancellation grace periods
- Domains registered through resellers (like Google Workspace) must be canceled through their respective platforms
Alternative Solution If outside the grace period, set up a new primary domain and gradually transition your online presence to maintain SEO and visibility.
