How to Connect WordPress Domain to Squarespace: Complete DNS Guide

To connect a WordPress domain to your Squarespace site, follow these DNS configuration steps:

Step 1: Start the Squarespace Connection

  1. Go to the Domains panel
  2. Click "Use my domain"
  3. Enter your domain name and click the arrow
  4. Click "Connect domain"
  5. Select "WordPress" from the dropdown
  6. Click "Connect domain" and "Continue"
  7. Keep the DNS records panel open for reference

Step 2: Access WordPress DNS Settings

  1. Log in to your WordPress account
  2. Navigate to My Site > Upgrades > Domains
  3. Select your domain
  4. Click "Change name servers and DNS records"
  5. Select "DNS records"

Step 3: Add First CNAME Record

  1. In WordPress, select CNAME from Type dropdown
  2. Copy the unique verification code from Squarespace's Host column
  3. Paste the code in WordPress's first field
  4. Enter "verify.squarespace.com" in the Alias Of field
  5. Click "Add new DNS record"

Step 4: Add Second CNAME Record

  1. Select CNAME from Type dropdown
  2. Enter "www" in the first field
  3. Enter "ext-cust.squarespace.com" in the Alias Of field
  4. Click "Add new DNS record"

Step 5: Add Four A Records

Add the following IP addresses as A records, leaving the first field empty:

  • 198.185.159.144
  • 198.185.159.145
  • 198.49.23.144
  • 198.49.23.145

Step 6: Wait for Connection

  1. Allow 24-72 hours for the connection to complete
  2. Check connection status in Squarespace's DNS settings
  3. Look for green labels in Current Data column
  4. Verify "Connected" status in Domains panel

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Use the DNS checker tool if you see "Unable to verify domain ownership"
  • Contact WordPress support for platform-specific issues
  • Temporary errors are normal during the 72-hour propagation period
