How to Create and Manage Downloadable Products: Step-by-Step Guide

Digital products like eBooks, music files, artwork, and PDFs can be sold through downloadable products. Customers receive a download link that expires after 24 hours, with automatic link renewal available if needed.

File Requirements:

  • Maximum file size: 300 MB
  • All file types accepted
  • One file per product
  • Remove special characters from filenames
  • SSL certificate required for secure downloads

Product Creation Process:

  1. Select "Download" as product type when adding a new item

  2. Add Basic Information:

  • Product name
  • Description
  • Product images (multiple allowed)
  1. Upload Product File:
  • Click "Upload File" or drag and drop
  • Ensure file meets size requirements
  1. Set Pricing:
  • Regular price
  • Optional sale price
  • Enable "On Sale" feature if needed
  1. Add Organization:
  • Categories (max 25 characters)
  • Tags (max 80 characters)
  • Both are case-sensitive and appear alphabetically
  1. Include SEO Description (Optional)

  2. Publish or Save:

  • Click "Publish" to make available
  • Use "Save" to keep as draft
  • "Schedule" for future release

Customer Download Process:

  • Download link provided on order confirmation page
  • Automatic email with download link sent
  • Link expires after 24 hours
  • New link sent automatically if expired
  • Manual link resend available through Orders panel

Important Notes:

  • Cannot set quantity or add variants
  • Not available for subscriptions
  • Test orders recommended for file verification
  • Custom forms and buttons can be added

For expired links, customers automatically receive a new download link to their original purchase email address. Store owners can manually resend links through the Orders panel using Email Notifications.
