How to Rename Your Squarespace Domain: 5-Day Grace Period Guide
A Squarespace domain name can be changed within 5 days of registration through cancellation and re-registration. After this period, the domain name becomes permanent.
Note: The 5-day grace period is measured by the minute. For example, a domain registered at 8:00 AM on January 1st can be cancelled until 7:59 AM on January 6th.
Important Considerations:
- Primary domains cannot be removed without setting a different primary domain first
- Most country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) like .co.uk or .de don't have a grace period or refund option
- Domains registered through resellers must be cancelled through the reseller's account
How to Change Your Domain Name:
- Cancel Your Current Domain:
- Go to Domains dashboard
- Select the domain to change
- Click "Delete Domain"
- Wait for refund processing
- Register a New Domain:
- Return to Domains dashboard
- Complete registration process for new domain name
- Set as primary domain if desired
Exceptions:
- ccTLD domains: No grace period available; can only disable auto-renewal
- Resold domains: Must be cancelled through the reseller's platform
- Primary domains: Set a different primary domain before removal
If your domain is beyond the 5-day grace period, you can still maintain your online presence by setting a different primary domain and following the domain change procedures.
