A Squarespace domain name can be changed within 5 days of registration through cancellation and re-registration. After this period, the domain name becomes permanent.

Note: The 5-day grace period is measured by the minute. For example, a domain registered at 8:00 AM on January 1st can be cancelled until 7:59 AM on January 6th.

Important Considerations:

  • Primary domains cannot be removed without setting a different primary domain first
  • Most country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) like .co.uk or .de don't have a grace period or refund option
  • Domains registered through resellers must be cancelled through the reseller's account

How to Change Your Domain Name:

  1. Cancel Your Current Domain:
  • Go to Domains dashboard
  • Select the domain to change
  • Click "Delete Domain"
  • Wait for refund processing
  1. Register a New Domain:
  • Return to Domains dashboard
  • Complete registration process for new domain name
  • Set as primary domain if desired

Exceptions:

  • ccTLD domains: No grace period available; can only disable auto-renewal
  • Resold domains: Must be cancelled through the reseller's platform
  • Primary domains: Set a different primary domain before removal

If your domain is beyond the 5-day grace period, you can still maintain your online presence by setting a different primary domain and following the domain change procedures.
