To rename a Squarespace domain, you must act within the first five days of registration. After this period, the domain name becomes permanent.

Five-Day Reflection Period

  • Calculated to the minute from registration
  • Example: Domain registered at 8:00 AM on January 1st can be canceled until January 6th at 7:59 AM
  • Not available for most country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs) like .co.uk or .de

Important Notes

  • Primary domains cannot be deleted without setting another domain first
  • If the five-day period has passed, you'll need to register a new domain and switch it as primary
  • Different rules apply for ccTLDs and resold domains

How to Rename Your Domain

  1. Cancel the Current Domain:

    • Go to Domains dashboard
    • Select the domain to modify
    • Click "Delete Domain"
    • You'll receive a refund after deletion
  2. Register a New Domain:

    • Return to Domains dashboard
    • Complete the registration process for your new domain name
    • Set it as your primary domain if desired

Exceptions

  • ccTLDs (.com.au, .de, etc.) have no reflection period
  • Domains purchased through resellers must be canceled through the reseller's account
  • For domains beyond the five-day period, consider changing your primary domain instead

Remember to maintain your online presence by properly redirecting traffic when changing domains.
