A site visitor needs to be redirected to another URL. Here's how to set up domain redirection in Squarespace:

Basic URL Redirection Steps:

  1. Open the domains panel
  2. Click the domain you want to edit
  3. Select Website
  4. Scroll to "URL redirect rules" and click "Add rule"
  5. Enter redirect details:
    • Redirect from: Use @ for main domain or enter subdomain
    • Redirect to: Enter full destination URL
  6. Configure advanced settings:
    • Choose 301 (permanent) or 302 (temporary) redirect
    • Keep SSL enabled
    • Select path redirection preferences
  7. Click Save

Types of Redirects Available:

  • Main domain redirect (example.com → newsite.com)
  • Subdomain redirect (blog.example.com → newsite.com/blog)
  • Specific page redirect (example.com → newsite.com/specific-page)

For Custom Name Servers:

  1. Add required DNS records (CNAME and A records)
  2. Remove existing A/AAAA records with @ host
  3. Configure redirect rules as above

Important Notes:

  • Redirects can take up to 72 hours to update
  • Clear browser cache if redirect doesn't work immediately
  • SSL should remain enabled for security
  • Path redirection maintains URL structure when redirecting
  • Cannot edit DNS records while redirect is active
  • www version automatically redirects with main domain

Troubleshooting:

  • Use private browsing to test redirects
  • Check for URL typos
  • Verify no conflicting DNS records
  • Remove and re-add redirects if issues persist
