Connecting a third-party domain to a different Squarespace site requires disconnecting it from your current site and reconnecting it to the new one. Here's how to do it properly:

Prerequisites:

  • Your site must be active (not expired or parked)
  • Your domain must be active with your third-party provider
  • You need access to both Squarespace sites

Step 1: Disconnect the Domain

  1. Go to your current Squarespace site's Domains panel
  2. Select the domain you want to transfer
  3. Scroll down and click "Disconnect Domain"
  4. Confirm the disconnection

Step 2: Connect to New Site

  1. Log in to your new Squarespace site
  2. Open the Domains panel
  3. Click "Use a Domain I Own"
  4. Enter your domain name and click "Continue"
  5. Select "Connect from Provider"
  6. Choose your domain provider from the dropdown

For Automated Connections (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Network Solutions):

  • Follow the automated process by logging into your provider
  • Click "Connect" when prompted

For Manual Connections:

  1. Access your domain provider's DNS settings
  2. Copy the unique CNAME code from Squarespace's DNS settings
  3. Update the existing CNAME record that points to verify.squarespace.com
  4. Replace the Alias field with the new code
  5. Save your changes

Note: Domain connection can take up to 24-48 hours to complete.

Google Workspace Transfer: If you have Google Workspace linked to your domain, contact Squarespace support with:

  • Current site URL
  • New site URL
  • Custom domain name

Troubleshooting:

  • Check provider-specific guides for detailed CNAME editing steps
  • Verify all DNS records are correctly entered
  • Wait 24-48 hours for changes to take effect
  • Contact Squarespace support if issues persist

The domain transfer is complete when your domain successfully points to your new Squarespace site.
