How to Transfer Your WordPress Domain to Squarespace: Complete Guide
Log in to WordPress and navigate to My Site > Upgrade > Domains, then select your target domain to begin the transfer process.
Verify your domain contact information is accurate, as all transfer communications will be sent to the listed email address.
Unlock your domain and obtain the transfer authorization code:
- Click "Transfer your domain"
- Select "Transfer to another registrar"
- Wait for the authorization code to be emailed to you
Start the transfer in Squarespace:
- Open your site's Domains panel
- Click "I already have a domain"
- Enter your domain name
- Click "Transfer the domain"
- Paste the authorization code
Verify your domain registration information and payment details. The transfer includes a one-year domain registration charge based on your TLD.
WordPress will email you to approve the transfer. If not clicked within 5 days, it auto-approves.
Monitor transfer status in your Squarespace Domains panel. Common errors include:
- Domain is locked: Unlock in WordPress
- Invalid authorization code: Verify and re-enter the code
While waiting for completion:
- Review DNS settings in Settings > Domain
- Don't modify DNS or add Google Workspace during transfer
- Transfer typically completes within 15 days
Once complete, you'll receive confirmation from [email protected] and see a green label in your Domains panel.
After transfer:
- Cancel WordPress hosting (if desired)
- Set as primary domain
- Configure SSL
- Add custom email through Google Workspace
- Update domain billing settings
If transfer fails, you'll receive an email from Squarespace. Contact WordPress support for assistance or consider keeping the domain with WordPress and connecting it to Squarespace instead.
