Domain contact information plays a crucial role in managing your domain ownership effectively. Here's what you need to know about managing contact information for your domain:

Contact Roles

  • Owner - Primary contact and official registrant who receives all domain emails
  • Admin - Secondary contact who receives most domain emails
  • Tech - Backup contact for critical domain emails only
  • Billing - Backup contact for critical domain emails and billing matters

Important Formatting Guidelines

Email Address:

  • Avoid using domain-associated email addresses
  • Don't use Apple email addresses (@mac.com, @me.com, @icloud.com)
  • Remove any trailing spaces
  • Must be accessible for transfer notifications

Phone Number:

  • Enter without dashes or country code
  • Country code adds automatically based on address

Address Details:

  • Address 1: Include only street number and name
  • Address 2: Optional for apartment/suite numbers
  • State: Only required for US and Canada
  • Postal Code: Must be correctly formatted
  • Country: Must match phone number's region

Organization:

  • Minimum four characters (three must be letters)
  • Optional for personal domain registrations

Keeping Information Updated

It's essential to maintain current contact information because:

  • Important domain notifications are sent to the registered email
  • Email verification is required for domain ownership
  • Contact details are needed for domain transfers

Whois Privacy

  • Automatically enabled for most domains
  • Some country code domains (ccTLDs) don't support Whois privacy
  • Can be disabled if needed

Updating Contact Information

  1. Access the Domains panel
  2. Select the domain to modify
  3. Click Edit in Registration Information
  4. Update relevant contact fields
  5. Save changes
  6. Verify changes via email (if required)

Verification Requirements

For owner contact changes:

  • Both old and new email addresses must approve changes
  • Verification email sent from [email protected]
  • Must complete verification within 15 days to avoid suspension

Best Practices

  • Keep a backup of your contact information
  • Respond promptly to verification emails
  • Review contact information annually
  • Use an email address you can always access

This information ensures smooth domain management and prevents any disruption in domain services.
