Rename Squarespace Domain: 5-Day Window to Change Your Domain Name
Rename your Squarespace domain within five days of registration by canceling it and registering a new one. After this grace period, your domain name becomes permanent.
Important Notes:
- The 5-day grace period is counted by minutes (e.g., registered at 8 AM on January 1, cancellable until 7:59 AM on January 6)
- Most country code domains (ccTLDs) like .com.au or .de don't have a grace period or refund option
- You cannot remove a primary domain without setting another domain as primary first
How to Change Your Domain Name:
- Cancel the Current Domain (Within 5 Days):
- Open domain control panel
- Select the domain
- Click "Delete domain"
- You'll receive a refund after cancellation
- Register a New Domain:
- Go to the domains panel
- Complete the new domain registration process
Exceptions:
- ccTLD domains: No cancellation period available (can only disable auto-renewal)
- Reseller domains: Must be cancelled through the reseller account (e.g., Google Workspace)
- Primary domains: Set another domain as primary before removing
After five days, while you can't rename the domain, you can still change your primary domain to maintain your online presence.
