Report Malware Threats: Your Guide to URL Security
Blog posts, portfolio items, products, and events automatically get URL slugs based on their titles. You can set a standard URL format for blog posts and edit individual URLs as needed.
URL slugs are the exact web addresses for pages and content on your site. For example, a page titled "About Us" gets the automatic URL slug
/about-us, making the full URL
www.yourdomain.com/about-us.
Finding URL Slugs
Ways to view a page's URL slug while logged in:
- Use Full Preview mode
- Open in private/incognito browsing
- Check page/item settings
URL Slug Requirements
Key formatting rules:
- Must be lowercase (uppercase letters automatically convert)
- Length: 3-250 characters for pages, 3-200 for posts/products
- Only hyphens allowed as special characters
- Cannot reuse URLs from deleted products
- Cannot match reserved system URLs
Reserved URL Slugs
System-reserved URLs include:
- account
- cart
- checkout
- search
- auth
- config
- storage
- commerce
Best Practices
To maintain working links when changing URLs:
- Create 301 redirects from old to new URLs
- Update all internal page links
- Keep URLs short and memorable
- Avoid using collection page URLs in other page URLs
Editing URLs
To change a page URL:
- Open Pages menu
- Access Page Settings
- Edit URL slug field
- Save changes
Remember that changes to URLs will break existing links unless you set up proper redirects and update internal links.
Collection pages (blogs, portfolios, stores) create reserved URL structures that cannot be used for other pages.
