Asset Management in Squarespace: Images and Videos
The Asset library in Squarespace stores all your uploaded media, making it easy to reuse content across your site. Here's everything you need to know about managing your digital assets.
Reusing Assets
You can reuse images in multiple locations:
- Banner images
- Blog posts and featured images
- Email campaigns
- Image and gallery blocks
- Product images
- Site logos (v7.1)
- Mobile fallback images
Videos can be reused in:
- Video blocks
- Section backgrounds
- Course pages
- Video pages
Managing the Asset Library
To access saved assets:
- Open the Assets panel
- View file details by hovering over assets and clicking the three dots
- Check file information like dimensions, date added, and size
Adding Content:
- Open Assets panel
- Either drag and drop files or click "Add New"
- Select files to upload
- Wait for upload confirmation
Organizing Assets
Create folders to organize content:
- Click "Add New" > "Folder"
- Name your folder
- Move assets by selecting them and using the folder icon
- Create up to 40 nested levels of subfolders
Deleting and Restoring Content
To delete assets:
- Select items in Asset library
- Click trash icon
- Confirm deletion
Restore deleted items within 30 days:
- Access Trash in Assets panel
- Select items
- Click "Restore"
Important Notes:
- Deleted assets stay in trash for 30 days
- Restored items return to original locations
- Stock images remain in the library where purchased
- Edited images save as copies
- File names serve as alt text in most areas
