Change the account and site language on Squarespace by adjusting two key settings:

Account Language:

  • Controls the language you see when editing your site
  • Changes navigation menus and editing panels
  • Each collaborator can set their own preference
  • Affects all sites linked to your account
  • Can be changed via Account Settings > Language

Site Language:

  • Affects text visitors see (form labels, dates, navigation)
  • Available languages include English, French, German, Japanese (7.1 only), Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish
  • Change through Site Languages panel (7.1) or Language and Region panel (7.0)

What Gets Translated:

  • Form field labels and placeholders
  • Commerce text and checkout pages
  • Collection navigation
  • Email campaign confirmations
  • Search block placeholder text

What Stays in English:

  • Your own content (text blocks, page titles)
  • Calendar structures
  • Landing page demo content
  • Most external integrations

Important Notes:

  • Site language changes only affect embedded text
  • Dates use localized formatting in supported templates
  • Form fields adapt to visitor's location
  • Mobile apps available in all supported languages
  • Each setting can be different (e.g., English account, Spanish site)

Supported Templates:

  • All version 7.1 sites
  • Bedford family
  • Brine family
  • York family
  • Select templates from Montauk and Pacific families

For multilingual sites, consider using the Weglot integration to display content in multiple languages simultaneously.
