
How to Check Your Site's Squarespace Version and Template
To check your Squarespace site's version and template:
- Open the "Pages" panel of your site
- Scroll to the bottom of the panel
- Version 7.1 displays only the version number
- Version 7.0 shows both version and template family name
Understanding Versions and Templates:
Version 7.1:
- All templates share the same features and style options
- Cannot switch between templates but can customize extensively
- Uses two editing systems:
- Intuitive Editor for most block sections and footer
- Classic Editor for blogs, events, and products
Version 7.0:
- Has distinct template families with unique features
- Contains 10 different template families
- Each family (like Bedford) includes multiple templates
- Can switch between templates within version 7.0
Important Notes:
- Cannot switch templates between versions 7.0 and 7.1
- Manual update tool available to move from 7.0 to 7.1
- Version 7.1 sites can use the Squarespace Design Kit with AI for layout inspiration
- Older sites may use Squarespace 5 (identified by absence of left panel)

- New sites: Browse 7.1 template store for current options
- Prefer older designs: Access 7.0 template store to start a new trial
