To check your Squarespace site's version and template:

  1. Open the "Pages" panel of your site
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the panel
  • Version 7.1 displays only the version number
  • Version 7.0 shows both version and template family name

Understanding Versions and Templates:

Version 7.1:

  • All templates share the same features and style options
  • Cannot switch between templates but can customize extensively
  • Uses two editing systems:
    • Intuitive Editor for most block sections and footer
    • Classic Editor for blogs, events, and products

Version 7.0:

  • Has distinct template families with unique features
  • Contains 10 different template families
  • Each family (like Bedford) includes multiple templates
  • Can switch between templates within version 7.0

Important Notes:

  • Cannot switch templates between versions 7.0 and 7.1
  • Manual update tool available to move from 7.0 to 7.1
  • Version 7.1 sites can use the Squarespace Design Kit with AI for layout inspiration
  • Older sites may use Squarespace 5 (identified by absence of left panel)

Template Selection:

  • New sites: Browse 7.1 template store for current options
  • Prefer older designs: Access 7.0 template store to start a new trial

For detailed template features and comparisons, consult Squarespace's template comparison tables and template guides.
