Manage Files: How to Upload and Share Files on Your Website

Upload files to your site and manage them easily through the hyperlink editor. Files must be under 20MB.

To Upload a New File:

  1. Open the link editor
  2. Select 'File' from dropdown menu
  3. Click upload icon to choose file
  4. Enable 'Open in new tab' if desired

To Link Existing Files:

  1. Select 'File' in link editor
  2. Choose from Recently Uploaded list or search
  3. Look for checkmark confirmation

File Management Options:

  • Rename: Click pencil icon, edit name, press Enter
  • Delete: Click trash icon
  • Download: Right-click link, select 'Save link as...'

Supported File Types:

  • ZIP (single file, under 20MB)
  • PDF (forms won't function)
  • DOCX (download only)
  • Images
  • Audio files
  • CSS files

Important Notes:

  • Files open in browser by default
  • Some files download automatically (e.g., .docx)
  • File URLs cannot be modified
  • Password protection works only at page level
  • Files uploaded elsewhere (Gallery Block, CSS) aren't stored in link editor

  • Site logo
  • Favicon
  • Gallery blocks
  • Background images
  • Audio blocks
  • Custom CSS editor

For developers: Files can be synced through GitHub integration in the Squarespace Developer Platform.

Remember: Files on password-protected pages won't be indexed by search engines, but existing CDN URLs may remain accessible.
