Site Availability: How to Control & Manage Website Access

Site availability allows you to control who can access your website. Choose between Public, Password Protected, Private, or SSO Protected (Enterprise only) settings to manage visibility and access.

Public Sites

  • Visible to all visitors and search engines
  • Ideal for live, paid websites
  • Allows online store transactions
  • Enables search engine indexing
  • Supports social media sharing

Password Protected Sites

  • Requires visitors to enter a password
  • Available for both trial and paid sites
  • Useful for limiting access to specific visitors

Private Sites

  • Only accessible to site owners and contributors
  • Default setting for trial sites
  • Perfect for sites under construction
  • Visitors see "Private Site" message
  • Completely hidden from search engines

SSO Protected Sites (Enterprise Only)

  • Requires authentication through SSO providers
  • Compatible with Okta, Azure, ClassLink, or Google
  • Ideal for company websites

How to Change Site Availability:

  1. Open Site Availability panel
  2. Select desired visibility option
  3. Click Save

Additional Options:

  • Set up Under Construction page for temporary hiding
  • Control access to individual pages
  • Request search engine reindexing after publishing
  • Opt in/out of Squarespace promotion
  • Cancel subscription or trial if needed
